Eco-friendly Pressure Treated Lumber
Bayou Forest Products offers a wide variety of preservative treatment options for our customers. Many of our customers use our products for industrial or commercial applications where people are not present. For these applications, we often recommend using an industrial treatment like CCA or Creosote. But when people will be in contact with the treated lumber—whether a deck, a bridge, or another structure—the EPA restricts the use of these industrial treatment. So Bayou Forest Products offers treatments that are EPA approved for human contact that will look great and protect your lumber for yours to come.
MCA
Micronized Copper Azole (MCA) is a common pressure treatment. This is the treatment you’re most likely to encounter at your local big box store. While it does contain copper to help ward of the rot from moisture, the micronizing process creates a look that preserves the natural-wood look. Unlike other options, you won’t see the copper oxidation that turns the lumber a shade of green. We often recommend this treatment for decking and general residential use.
ACQ & Copper Azole
Alkaline Copper Quat (ACQ) and Copper Azole (CA) are two preservatives that we recommend for heavier duty applications where human contact still prohibits the use of industrial treatments. These are long-lasting pressure treatments, but they do require some special instructions. When using this material, you must use either hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel connectors (bolts, screws, nails, etc.). Otherwise, the copper in these treatments will corrode the connectors. In addition, ACQ treatment can produce a green tint as it weathers due to the oxidation of the copper in the treatment. CA will turn a honey brown and eventually gray.
As you can see, there are a number of options for pressure treated wood. At Bayou Forest Products, we work tirelessly to ensure that our customers get the right material for their projects. Call us today at 1-888-430-WOOD (9663) to discuss your next project.
